IFA kit for the detection of IgG antibodies to Borrelia burgdorferi
Fluo BORRELIA burgdorferi HORSE is a test based on the immunofluorescence technique for the detection of anti-Borrelia burgdorferi IgG antibodies in horse serum or plasma samples.
Borrelia burgdolferi is the causative agent of Lyme borreliosis, a chronic, debilitating disease of bacterial origin transmitted by ticks of the Ixodes genus.
Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato is a Gram- bacterium, a spirochete belonging to the Borrelia genus, with different subspecies that infect animals of different species such as Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto, Borrelia garinii and Borrelia afzelii are pathogenic for horses.
The disease in horses is present on the territory, but it is still not very widespread, even if it is linked to the vector expansion area.
Infections induced by these spirochetes can have an asymptomatic course and do not give permanent immunity, so reinfection is possible.
The clinical picture of borreliosis in horses is not so defined, the symptoms are non-specific and generalized making it difficult to diagnose. Symptoms may include fever, mild joint swelling, intermittent lameness, muscle pain and weakness, uveitis, laminitis, skin and heart manifestations, possible neurological symptoms, paralysis and hyperesthesia. The simultaneous transmission of Anaplasma phagocytophilum is possible, since ticks can be infected with both bacteria.
